1Sastra Prathibha Exams and Awards
Sastra Pratibha Contest (SPC) is an inter-school science talent search contest initiated by Vijnana Bharati which has been conducting this contest for years among the students in India and lately in all GCC countries. The objective of the examination is to make students more affinity towards pure science. Examination is held in two categories- Juniors and Seniors, where students of class 5,6 and 7 will be in the Junior Category and 8,9 and 10 will be in senior category. The test will be a 100 question, I hour Objective type test, where the questions are asked from the prescribed syllabus , current academic curriculum and General Knowledge . Two Top scoring students from each class will be declared the Sastra Prathibhas for that year and will receive the Sastra Prathibha Awards during the Annual science Gala.
Sastra Prathibha Contest which was introduced in Kuwait in 2014 , received massive participation from Students. As many as 3500 plus students from 15 schools participated in the first edition of Sastra Prathibha contest .
2Ignite -Science Writing Contest
As a tribute to our dearest late.Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam, Science International Forum- Kuwait introduced Ignite- Science writing Awards in 2015, which will be given to individuals in different categories based on a theme based Science writing contest which will be held Every year in Kuwait. As different from Sastra Prathibha, this contest demands individuals to travel through their imagination and explore the possibilities of science. This contest is open to both students and Public. In general this contest will be announced during vacation time to motivate children to do some creative thinking during their off days.
3NCSC- Young Scientists Program
National Children's Science Congress’ is the flag ship program of the National Council for Science & Technology Communication (NCSTC), Department of Science & Technology (DST) and Government of India. NCSC provides the children of 10 to 17 years from all over the country a unique opportunity to use their scientific temperament and knowledge to make their own dreams come true. The program was initiated in India in 1993. This program encourages students to form groups of maximum 5 students and do a project, which is a study of a problem carried out with a objective of finding out a solution of the problem. It involves defining the problem, making the hypothesis, observation, collection of data through survey or experimentation, its analysis and then arriving at conclusion to find out the solution. The themes and the subthemes for the project will be announced every year. In 2015,The Department of Science and Technology, Government of India appointed Science International Forum – Kuwait to conduct the screening test for this program, which will be called NCSC- Young Scientists Program . The winners of this contest will participate in the national Children Science Congress held in India, every year.
4Discover Science E -magazine
In this era of sensationalized journalism, relevant and the most important scientific news are corned in the inner pages of every media. Such media exposures might even demotivate our kids. Discover Science E-magazine attempts to address this issue by bringing science and scientific achievements in focus , for our kids to read, understand and get inspired. Students and teachers are also encouraged to contribute science articles . In Order to encourage readership, we have taken a decision that all General Knowledge question for the Sastra Prathibha Exams will come from the previous issues of Discover E magazine. Discover E magazine was launched by A. Jayakumar, Secretary general of Vijnana Bharati during the Annual Science gala in 2015.
5Student Scientist Interaction Sessions
Interaction programs with India’s Leading Scientists will be organized periodically providing a great opportunity for the students of Kuwait to meet and get an exposure of the rich experiences of these famous scientists. This program was launched in Kuwait during the visit of Dr.Vijay Bhatkar, Padma Vibhooshan winner and India’s leading IT Scientist, in 2015.
6Annual Science Gala
Annual science gala is a celebration of science with a theme ‘An Evening with the Pioneers’. Its is also the felicitation ceremony for honoring the winners of SastraPratibha Contest. Top ranking scientist from India and Dignitaries from Kuwait will attended this function. The function will have though provoking lectures and talk shows with leading scientists and educational experts in India. Normally its held during March/April Month.
7Teachers Empowerment Program
The objective of the program is to help teachers get familiarized with the recent developments in the field of Education, Science and Technology. Eminent scholars from the field of Education, Research and Industry will conduct this Professional Development activity which will be certified jointly by the Science International Forum Kuwait. The program was launched in Kuwait in 2015, where SIF organized a workshop for teachers by Prof. S Sivadas, an academic expert in science communication with 50 years of experience. As many as 200 teachers from 17 Indian schools participated in this program.
